A student Reading |
Set your reading goals to accomplish in uds:
Setting your reading goal is a key point to consider. A goal is not a dream but a clear precision and a purpose. How many books do you want to read in a week, month or year? How many pages will suite it? A goal isn't a hazy say "oh how I wish I could finish reading this article or that book" and blah blah. The important thing is not where you are were or where you are but where you want to get with your reading. So use reading goals to improve your reading habit. Lack of reading objectives as to the number of books to read in a year, months, weeks or pages to read in a day will not help you to improve upon your reading. Here are some few tips in setting your reading goals:
a. Set attainable goals: You must set your reading goals based on your own strengths by considering the available time and other factors that affect your life.Don't read 100 pages a day because that neighbor does so.
b. Stick to your reading goals: Certain things will sometimes distract but still stay focus on that goal. However, you must also a make a conscious efforts to avoid visible distractions such as TV phones, etc when you're reading from a book.
c. Reward yourself: If you notice that you've been able to follow through your reading goals, then you can buy yourself something or use points as rewards. Rewarding yourself will make you feel good to pursue your reading goals.
Believe you can follow your reading plans:
[Related: A tip for UDS students, how to read online ]Believe in itself makes it all. Sometimes you set some reading plans and you hardly believe you can go by it. Don't worry, it only take believe to see you going. For instance, when name bought a book entitled''The Magic Of Thinking Big'' by David J.Schwartz,PhD. I found the content very interesting. So I just decided that I would read the book within four days. Reading 50+ pages a day with a total of about 236 pages. And trust me with believe I made it. May be you're' doing marvelously above this or below. It only take believe to accomplish your reading plans. The point is; when you believe you can follow through your reading plans or goals, your mind finds new and improved ways in accomplishing that.
Practice it out:
I call the first two steps preparation stage. For you need a goal and an inner believe to get you going. But that isn't the end! You gotta practice. As it is popularly said ''practice makes a man perfect''. Become perfect in boosting your reading habit by acting on your goals. You said you'll read 15 pages a day or 52 books a year huh? Start it right away with action. It is better to die in a sustained efforts in reaching your goals than to die without venturing at all--The Capitalist Nigger. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. So it's with developing your reading habit. No practice, no perfection and for that matter , no gain too.
Select a perfect environment:
Our environment determines who we are and what we will be. So it is also with reading. The environment under which you read can determine the comprehension of the matter and the overall understanding of the subject. If your on the quest of improving skills your reading habit for higher productivity and success, then you must watch
carefully the situations under which you read. Below is some tips:
a. Read with self distractions tools such as TV, phones, tablets, etc away( if you're reading from a printed material)
b. Read under cool and peaceful atmosphere.
c. Reads things that concedes with your interest and purpose
d. Take quick breaks when you read for a bit longer.
Then above four steps are practical and can be used to improve your Reading skills directing you towards a successful life.
