Misconception # 1. First class is reserved for only intelligent students.
I know you will bear witness to this statement right. Many students think that those students who get the label as 'first class' are super genius. They believe that they are more brilliant. No this isn't true. Those students are no different from you at all . In fact, you are almost the same in every way.
See they've one head, one brain, they attend the same lectures with you, have the same number of chromosomes as you, are not Aliens but come from Earth , eat the same food even sometimes you may eat better than they do. They are blacks and you're. They can become tired so do you, and the list goes on and on... So it is erroneous to think that the A and the A+s is reserved for people with unprecedented brain Faculties.
However, the only clear distinct characteristic of students who score greater marks and eventually make first class and the students who settle for lower is that :
The students who score greater marks and make first class in the long run, believe and accept that higher performance is possible and as a result, they make plans to accomplish that. The opposite is true for poor and mediocre students.

Misconception #2.it takes a lot of studying.
Blowing first class in UDS requires efforts but not as serious as others believed to be. It does not means one has to study for long hours 24/7 a week. Getting first class certainly demand of you studies. Nevertheless, it is not the extreme. You can still blow your A or A+s when do little but EFFECTIVE LEARNING. I repeat little but effective studying.
Misconception #3. Whether you get first, second or third class you're the same.
It is absolutely wrong to believe in this statement. Who told you that there is no preference when it comes to qualifications? What do you think employers look for when they request your CV? Don't be deceived!, the student with first class is has no co equal. Because of this imprinting, most students walk about wasting there precious money making time believing that first class students and third class students are co-equal. They make comments such as '' even someone has a made a first-class and he or she is still there jobless so why so i bother? '' It's a big fallacy.
Misconception #4. It is difficult to obtain a first class Honour in UDS.
Most students here in this University have imprinted in their minds that graduating with first-class is almost impossible due to the grading system. By making comparison with other Universities across the country like Legon, KNUST, Winneba, Cape Coast and the others, they justify that uds has a '' wicked '' grading system which makes it difficult almost impossible graduating with first class Honour. To acquire a first class honour in this University, one is required to obtain a GPA of 4. 5 to 5.0. Though their justification might contain an aorta of truth yet it is not cogent! For other students have made it. Why can't you? The truth is it is really easy to graduate with first class honour in UDS than most students think.
Misconception # 5. Even if you get first class the school won't give you.
When it comes to excuses, the human mind can pull an exhaustive list of them . Instead of putting extra efforts to learn and graduate with honour, we justify our laziness with this reason that the University will deny us even when we are qualified to be awarded with first class. I was seriously amused when a senior student narrated a case. But by then, I haven't made enough research, I would have asked him to pin point to me that particular student whom they denied. Isn't the credibility of a school measured by the number of students who graduate with honour? If this is factual, hence, the question is, why would a university like UDS be interested in denying students of their appropriate awards? So now yo can see clearly that it is a typical preconception.
Misconceptions #6. First class is easy with some courses than the others.
This is a typical fallacious reasoning. Every course is equal. No course is so cheap that when offered, can easily fetch you first class. On the other hand, no course is so difficult that when offered will be hard to get first class. The difficulty or the easiness of a course depend entirely on our minds. That's how we perceived the course. So when you perceive a course to be tough, the results will that, it will tough to pass well any exams conducted. And the vice versa. This again is a Misconception.
Misconceptions #7. Examination favours the fool.
This is one of the hackneyed phrases you often hear walking around campus especially during exams season. Though most student believe it to be true, but you and i knows that is a false. Examination favour those who prepare for it . Same applies to first class, if you really wants it , you have to prepare for it.
Must develop attitudes if you want to a successful student
Must develop attitudes if you want to a successful student
Misconceptions #8. You don't need first class to be complete.
This statement is a statement of fact in another context. You actually need first class to be complete. Imagine how great and wonderful you feel when your name is being mentioned at the graduating ceremony declaring that you have a first class honour. Imagine how proud and successful you will feel. You will feel complete and trust me you be almost flying ✈ in air. People will love you and there will you feel that you have realistically accomplished something great and plausible. It is true in several instances that, first class Honour will make you totally complete.
